LABORATORIOFERRETTI presents Modulo Imperfetto, a modular lighting system, at Building TT for DDW26. A standard structure carries a shade in plexiglass offcuts, patterned after antique objects. For R.A.W., it asks what decoration is still worth.
Standard / custom
Modulo Imperfetto is a modular lighting system in square tubular steel and standard industrial hardware. It was designed for a venue 350 kilometres from the studio, light and cheap enough to travel by public transport.
The structure is fully reversible. It can be assembled, taken apart and reused in new configurations. A custom lampshade is fitted onto this same standard base, as a local, expressive element made for each context. In its first version, this shade was produced with Giacomo Galli's workshop, PAKE Longboards.
Authentic / reproduced
For Dutch Design Week 2026, the same structure returns at Building TT. The new shade is embossed in plexiglass, with a pattern copied from antique decorative salvaged objects.
An antique motif is valued for its rarity, its history, and the hand that carved it. Once a machine embosses it onto industrial offcuts, it becomes reproducible and cheap, closer to a copy than to the original.
Building TT's own theme is the heavy decoration of past world's exhibitions, where ornament was already staged for status as much as for craft. Modulo Imperfetto stages the same contrast today, industrial against artisanal, authentic against reproduced.
