A dialogue between humans, land, and other-than-human life. Palm and insect resin merge into forms that embody protection, transformation, and the memory of living landscapes.
What forms emerge when humans, insects, plants, and land enter into dialogue?
The installation emerges from a dialogue between humans, land, and other-than-human life.
Rooted in the ancestral intelligence of naturally woven palm textiles and the studio’s ongoing exploration of lac — the resinous polymer produced by insects — the sculptures bring together two material lineages into a new hybrid composite.
At the centre is a nourishing force embedded within the landscape, a totemic seat growing from tapestry of fibers. Like the cocoon, the palm becomes a site of transformation: a living architecture shaped by and for life.
Through weaving, binding, coating, and transformation, the works explore how materials shaped by living organisms might carry the memory of the lives, labour, and landscapes that formed them. Palm fibres and insect resin become vessels for ecological knowledge and embodied histories, connecting human and other-than-human processes.
The resulting forms hover between body and habitat, artifact and organism — somewhere between the made and the grown. They invite us to consider materials not as passive matter, but as participants in an ongoing multispecies dialogue.
