Balancing Tension

A design that appears weightless through the use of ropes that hold its components in tension.

Exploring Tension

This side table is the result of a hands-on exploration of tension as a structural principle. Through a series of experiments with scale models, different methods of tensioning materials and connecting elements were investigated. By consistently adhering to these design principles, the design was gradually reduced to its essential elements. Every unnecessary component was eliminated, resulting in a clear, minimalist construction in which tension is not only a structural necessity but also the defining aesthetic feature.
