BALANCE.26 × Eliza Yokina presents old discharged school chairs turned into contemporary design pieces by Romanian creatives and the studio La Centrala In Context, a call to action for rebalancing the relationship between resources and creativity.
OLD/NEW BALANCE
“BALANCE. 26 x Eliza Yokina is an installation of old school chairs signed by young Romanian designers as a response to the call to action launched during 2025 edition of The Romanian Design Week by the eco-socially engaged Non for Profit project La Centrala In Context, together with the renowned architect Eliza Yokina. Creatives were invited to rethink 26 old school chairs representing the size of a classroom in Romania during communism. Luxury textile patchworks from expired sample books complete the newly created design objects.
The designers whose projects are exhibited at DDW 2026 are Ana
Benga, Atelier VRAC, and Cătălina Elena Moisa.
Their innovative visions, proposing the reuse of widely accessible resources in Romania and not only, will be produced in limited series and reintroduced into a sustainable commercial circuit, while simultaneously supporting both the creative community involved in
the concept and coordination of the project, and the local com-
munities engaged in waste reduction and the production of new
objects.
