Organic Pressure

Sculptural wood exploring the tension between natural growth and controlled force.

Organic Pressure by Casper Smits explores natural growth through handcrafted sculptural furniture. Organic forms are shaped intuitively from wood and refined with a high-gloss finish, blurring the line between function and sculpture.

Concept

Organic Pressure explores the tension between natural growth and controlled force. The pieces blur the boundary between functional furniture and sculpture through organic, flowing forms.

Process

Each piece is shaped intuitively by hand, allowing the organic form to emerge during the making process. I respond to the material as I work, rather than following a fixed shape. The surfaces are carefully refined and finished with multiple layers of high-gloss lacquer.

Material

The collection is made entirely from wood, exploring the material beyond its familiar, raw character. The wood becomes smooth, seamless and highly reflective, creating the impression of an entirely new material. Its natural grain remains visible beneath the surface, balancing the organic character of wood with a refined and contemporary appearance.
