Dion Lee x Knitwear Lab collaboration

Dion Lee, originally from Sydney and now based in New York, collaborated with Knitwear Lab for the Fall/Winter 22 collection. Inspired by architectural drapery, we developed sculptural knitwear using mercerized cotton and metallic viscose, merging technical innovation with design artistry.

Sculptural Knitwear Innovation

The collaboration between Dion Lee and Knitwear Lab explored how knitwear can become architectural — both structured and fluid. By merging traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge knitting technology, the project pushed the expressive potential of yarns and stitches. The team developed intricate surfaces that shift between tension and drape, rigidity and flow, translating the language of sculpture into textile form. Techniques such as double-bed knitting and the use of metallic yarns created reflections that evoke the play of light on carved stone or molten metal. Every material choice was guided by a search for balance between technical precision and sensual tactility. The result is a series of garments that feel both engineered and organic, bridging digital design and artisanal production. This project stands as an example of how collaboration between creative vision and technical mastery can redefine knitwear as a medium for sculptural expression.
