Basic Instinct: Making–With

Beauty and Symbiosis as a Necessity

Compelling showcases of over 50 emerging and established design talents, producers and labels. Spread across multiple spaces, Kazerne Foundation invites you into a world where beauty, instinct and urgency converge in works that seek not to stand apart from nature, but to stand beside it.

New Materials, New Seductions

What drives us to keep creating and producing in an increasingly complex, fragile and unpredictable world? Humanity’s fascination with sparkle – the seduction of shine and the refuge of beauty – is as old as civilisation itself. But how do we translate that into symbiotic, responsible design that is beautiful, useful and more durable?

Annemoon Geurts, Creative Director, Kazerne Foundation: "We don't interpret instinct as an individual urge, but as a shared impulse: to make with. Together with people, materials and ecosystems. Because nothing arises on its own. It’s important to show, from various angles, that both young and established designers, as well as small studios and large industries, are innovating from this perspective. With head and heart."

Exhibitors like Lilian van Daal, Materia Futura and Thibault Philip show that sustainable materials don't need to be beige and boring. Bright colours, surprising forms and aesthetic allure turn out to combine effortlessly with a careful, nature-inclusive approach to design.

Come take a look — stay for dinner, drinks, or even spend the night among the works — and get inspired.
